Ingredients

  • 2 oz vodka
  • ½ oz Grand Mariner or other orange liqueur
  • 1 ½ Tbsp honey simple syrup (recipe follows)
  • 3 oz fresh squeezed grapefruit juice
  • 1 oz fresh squeezed tangerine juice (or orange juice)
  • ice as needed
  • grapefruit peel to garnish

Honey Simple Syrup:

  • ¼ cup water
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup honey

Instructions

  • Pour vodka and Grand Marnier into shaker cup.Add honey simple syrup. Follow with grapefruit juice and tangerine juice
  • Add ice cubes to shaker cup. Cover shaker and shake to chill drink. Use cocktail strainer to pour ice-cold cocktail into martini glass.
  • Garnish with grapefruit peel and basil leaf, if desired.

Honey Simple Syrup:

  • In a small sauce pot, add water and sugar.  Cook over medium heat until sugar has dissolved.  Stir in honey.  Remove from heat.  Cool to room temperature before using.

Notes

  • Vodka can be replaced with gin.
  • Use your choice of orange liqueur. I highly recommend Cointreau or Grand Marnier.
  • This recipe uses a combination of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and tangerine juice. If you cannot find tangerine juice, substitute in orange juice.
  • Tangerine or orange juice adds sweetness to balance the often bitter notes of grapefruit juice. If you prefer less sweetness, use all grapefruit juice!
