Strawberry Basil Frozen Yogurt

Homemade strawberry basil frozen yogurt combines sweet ripe strawberries, fresh basil, and Greek yogurt for one refreshing and delicious summer treat! This recipe can be churned and frozen to a creamy consistency. Or, choose to freeze the mixture to create popsicles!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries (335 g), hulled and sliced
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar (150 g)
  • 3 Tablespoon fresh basil leaves chopped
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated lime zest
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (230 g)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (227 g)

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, combined sliced strawberries and sugar. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit for 30 minutes. Strawberry will expel juices as it sits.
  • Pulse strawberry-sugar mixture (including all the liquids), chopped basil, and lime zest in a food processor or blender until berries are almost pureed.
  • In another bowl, whisk together Greek yogurt and heavy cream until smooth. Add strawberry mixture and stir to combine.
  • Pour mixture into bowl of ice cream maker and freeze according to machine manufacturer's instructions, or alternatively, pour into popsicle molds and freeze for 2-3 hours until firm.

Notes

Ingredients:
  • This recipe works with best with fresh strawberries. You will achieve similar results with thawed frozen strawberries.  
  • Omit basil if you want plain strawberry frozen yogurt.
Storage:
  • Keep fresh churned frozen yogurt in a freezer safe container with a tight fitting lid or cover. Store in the coldest part of the freezer. Will stay fresh for about a week.
