Elevate classic rice krispies treats with brown butter and Oreo’s limited edition Apple Pie a la Mode flavor! This pastry chef perfected recipe delivers comforting fall flavors in an easy no-bake dessert.

If you follow me on Instagram, you’re well aware of my love (perhaps borderline obsession) for Oreo’s seasonal and limited run flavors. Case in point: blueberry pie, Selena Gomez flavor collab, and birthday cake.
My newest find is the new Apple Pie a la Mode flavor creme. It’s a Golden Oreo with an apple pie topped with vanilla ice cream flavored filling. To describe this new flavor in one word… would be DELICIOUS.

What Makes this Recipe Special
- This is the perfect dessert to usher in autumn flavors. It’s an easy no-bake recipe that is great for sharing.
- The use of brown butter (instead of regular melted butter) adds depth of flavor and aromatic nutty finish.
- You get the flavor of apple pie without turning on the oven!
- Rice cereal treats are great on their own, but they’re even better when layered with crunchy cookie bits. The textural contrast is of crispy, chewy, and crunchy is so satisfying!
Ingredients

There are a handful of key ingredients. You’ll need:
- Apple Pie a la Mode Oreos
- Butter (salted or unsalted)
- Marshmallows
- Crispy Rice Cereal
- Ground Cinnamon
- Almond Extract & Vanilla Extract
The special apple pie flavored Oreos are only available for a limited time. Find it at your local supermarket or big box stores like Target or Walmart. And if all else fails, simply swap in Golden Oreos.
Recipe can be made with your choice of salted or unsalted butter. Using salted butter won’t make the dessert “salty”- rather it’ll be much for flavorful!
Store-bought marshmallows work best. This isn’t the time to use homemade marshmallows. I recommend using the mini marshmallow variety because it melts faster and more evenly compared to the larger sizes. There’s less chance of overheating the marshmallows.
While crispy rice cereal is the traditional choice- feel free to sub in your favorite cereal! Amp up the sweetness by using Cinnamon Toast Crunch or Frosted Flavors.
Add ground cinnamon, almond extract, and vanilla extract to further enhance the warm flavors of this dessert. It’s nearly impossible to overload on vanilla- HOWEVER, be mindful of the amount of almond extract you use. A little goes a long way!
Variations & More Creative Twists
I love a good cereal bar treat! Try these Biscoff rice krispies, peppermint bark cereal bars, or Lucky Charms marshmallow treats. These monster marshmallow cereal treats are great for Halloween decorating.
You may also swap in other Oreo flavors. Classic staple flavors like lemon, mint, and dark chocolate are great for this recipe.
Mixing Instructions
You’ll need a stove top if you choose to brown the melted butter. Otherwise, you could technically make these apple pie rice crispy treats by simply using a microwave.
Melt and brown butter over medium heat. Add in marshmallows. Stir until melted. Remove from heat and add in cinnamon, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
Immediately fold in rice cereal and chopped Oreo pieces. Fold to combine until cereal and cookies are completed coated in marshmallow.
Transfer to prepared baking pan. Press into an even layer. Cool to room temperature. Unmold and place on a cutting board. Use a sharp knife to slice into desired serving sizes.

Serving and Storage Suggestions
Use an 8-inch or 9-inch square baking pan to make thick rice krispie bars like the ones photographed in this post. Alternatively, use a large baking pan (such as 9×13-inch) to make thinner bars.
Store leftovers in an covered container at room temperature (away from direct sunlight). Keeps for about 5 days.
These cereal bars freeze well. Should you choose this option, be sure to freeze the bars while at their prime- ideally within two days of assembly. Wrap well in plastic wrap. Place in a freezer safe bag or container. Keep i the coldest part of the freezer for up to three months. Defrost at room temperature to enjoy!
Brown Butter Apple Pie Oreo Rice Krispies

Ingredients
- 6 Tbsp butter, (85 g) salted or unsalted
- 10 oz mini marshmallow package
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt, optional if you use salted butter
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon pure almond extract, optional
- 5 cups crispy rice cereal, (150 g)
- 1 cup Apple Pie a la Mode Oreos, (100 g) roughly chopped, or more according to preferences
Instructions
- Line 9-inch square baking pan* with parchment paper, allowing excess paper to hang over the sides. This will help with unmolding later.
- In a large sauce pot, melt butter over medium heat. Continue to cook once butter has melted. Stir melted butter occasionally. Mixture will bubble and foam as it cooks. Heat until mixture smells nutty and the milk solids have turned golden brown.
- Reduce to low heat and immediately add in marshmallows and salt. Stir until marshmallows are melted and mixture is smooth.
- Remove from heat. Stir in cinnamon, vanilla, and almond extract. Immediately add in cereal. Fold in chopped Oreos. Fold until contents are coated with marshmallow mixture.
- Transfer to prepared baking pan. Spread and press into an even layer. Cool to room temperature (at least 30 minutes). Use parchment paper overhang to lift and unmold rice krispies treats from the pan. Place on a cutting board. Use a sharp knife to slice into desired serving sizes.
Notes
- This recipe works with either salted or unsalted butter. When using salted butter, you may omit the additional salt. However, I still add salt!
- Mini marshmallows melt faster and more evenly than the larger marshmallow sizes.
- You may skip the brown butter part and simply use melted butter.
