Whenever anyone in the family has a cold, my dad goes to Super King Market and buys pounds and pounds orange. Last week, he bought 10 pounds of oranges!

No one needs that much fresh squeezed orange juice to feel better. But that’s the thing with my dad, he always provides more than one could ever need.

Now that everyone is over their cold… what’s to happen with all the excess oranges?

Orange and Poppy Seed Mini Donuts

Orange Poppy Seed Baked Donuts

I end up with all the extra oranges. No complaints here. There is a constant need for oranges in my kitchen, like for making orange sorbet, orange buttermilk bundt cake, or these orange baked donuts!

These orange poppy seed donuts turned out better than I imagined.  Poppy seeds are usually paired with lemons. But, any citrus works wonderfully with poppy seeds.

New to baked donuts?

Baked donuts are a nice lighter alternative to the traditional fried donuts. I am well aware that original fried donuts are far more superior in taste and texture.

But, if you’re afraid to work with a giant pot of hot oil, baked donuts are the way to go!

These were good, but the batter was very thick. I wasn’t quite expecting that. We made them in my sons mini donut maker and it was hard to fill the holes. I’d make them again, but go the big donut size instead. I’ll also add that I cut the sugar in half and kids still enjoyed them!
