Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte
Great for brunch or a sweet afternoon pick me up!
No need to run to your nearest coffee house, boba tea shop, or bakery. Easily make strawberry matcha at home!
This recipe was inspired by Porto’s Bakery Strawberry Matcha Latte.
There are three components to this delicious drink:
- Strawberry sauce
- Sweet milk
Fresh Strawberry Sauce
Freeze dried strawberries are a miracle worker! It’s the key ingredient that makes this fresh strawberry sauce deliciously intense.
I learned this method from the What’s Eating Dan segment produced by America’s Test Kitchen.
Three ingredients: fresh strawberries, freeze dried strawberries, and granulated sugar.
Fresh strawberries work best. It works with frozen strawberries, but I found the flavor to be less intense.
Freeze dried strawberries are available in the dried fruit section of super markets or big box stores (like Target or Walmart). Of course, you may also purchase it online.
Puree all three ingredients together using a high speed blender or food processor.
The freeze dried strawberries will hydrate in the strawberry juice.
Why are freeze dried strawberries necessary?
Sweet Milk Mixture
Better than any creamer! Sweet milk is a mixture of milk and sweetened condensed milk.
I used 2% reduced fat milk. Use any milk of your choice: whole milk, low fat milk, etc.
This also works well with any non-dairy alternative milk such as oat milk, soy milk, or almond milk.
There are several non-dairy sweetened condensed milk options including: sweetened condensed coconut milk and sweetened condensed oat milk.
Use leftover sweet milk in coffee, tea, or oatmeal.
Prepared matcha is simply fine matcha powder dissolved in hot water.
I recommend this ceremonial grade matcha. It’s the one I used for this recipe.
This particular matcha has a vibrant green color with a smooth, slightly sweet, slightly earthy flavor.
Warm up water in the microwave or heat over the stove.
Add in matcha powder and stir to dissolve. Use a handheld milk frother (also called electric whisk) to make this step super easy!
Assembling the Drink
Time needed: 5 minutes.
Quick and easy iced strawberry matcha latte. Keep your fridge stocked with strawberry sauce and sweet milk to make this drink in a flash!
- Mix strawberry sauce + sweet milk.
Stir together 2 oz strawberry sauce with 4 oz sweet milk.
- Add ice.
Fill serving glass half full of ice. Large ice cubes work best!
- Pour in prepared matcha.
Dissolve 1 teaspoon matcha into 3 oz hot water. Pour mixture over strawberry milk and ice.

The slightly sweet, slightly tart flavor of fresh strawberries blends well with the earthy and bitter notes of matcha.
When strawberry and matcha are combined with sweet milk, it creates a well balanced, easy to drink beverage! Cheers!
Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte
- high speed blender or food processor *
- 2 oz strawberry sauce
- 5 oz sweet milk
- 3 oz prepared matcha
- 6 oz hulled fresh strawberries (170 g, or about 1 cup sliced)
- 4 oz granulated sugar (100 g or ½ cup)
- ½ oz freeze dried strawberries (15 g)
- 8 oz milk of choice* (227 g or 1 cup)
- 1 ½ oz sweetened condensed milk (40 g or 2 Tablespoons)
- 1 teaspoon matcha powder
- 3 oz hot water (85 g , or a little over ⅓ cup)
- In a tall serving glass, combine 2 oz strawberry sauce and 5 oz sweet milk. Fill glass half full of ice.
- In another glass (or matcha bowl), dissolve 1 teaspoon matcha powder in 3 oz hot water. Stir until frothy. Pour mixture over strawberry milk mixture. Stir together and enjoy immediately.
- Puree fresh strawberries, freeze dried strawberries, and granulated sugar in a high speed blender or food processor until smooth. Keep refrigerated until ready to use.
- Dissolve sweetened condensed milk in milk of choice. Use an immersion blender (or high-speed blender) for ease. Or, simply stir with a spoon until well combined.
- Fresh strawberries work best. Can be made with frozen strawberries, but the flavor will be slightly watered down.
- Freeze dried strawberries are available in the dried fruit section of markets or big box stores. Or, purchase online.
- Use any milk of choice. I used 2% reduced fat milk. If using non-dairy alternative milk, you may have to adjust sweetness of drink.
- Use ceremonial grade matcha for best flavor and color.
